Single mother sexually assaulted by housemate who is now on the run -Thursday, December 15, 2016

MIRI (15/12/2016): A single mother has made a police report claiming sexual molestation by her housemate, who had earlier made a friendly gesture of offering bread to her daughter.

In the 7.45am incident yesterday, the woman, in her 30s, claims she was attending to her three-year-old daughter when the man came into her room.

Miri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Khoo Leng Huat said instead of giving bread as promised, the assailant suddenly charged towards the woman and started fondling her private parts.

“The woman said she tried to retaliate but was overpowered by the man,” said Khoo. The man, believed to be Indonesian, fled the house after the woman threatened to lodge a police report against him.

Khoo said police are in the midst of locating the suspect, believed to be in his 40s.

Police nab thieving brothers after getaway photo went viral -Thursday, December 15, 2016

IPOH (15/12/2016): It's the end of the road for two thieving brothers after a photo of them making their getaway became viral.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said a team from the Pasir Putih police station managed to identify and track down the brothers to their home in Kampung Pasir Putih here on Monday.

"We found the motorcycle used by the brothers in their crime spree at the house," he told reporters. The motorcycle belonged to the suspects' father.

Investigations showed that the brothers, both unemployed aged 28 and 29, were behind at least 20 cases reported in Pasir Putih, Pasir Pinji, Simpang Pulai and Kampung Rapat this year.

"They steal car batteries, shoes and steel items at housing areas before re-selling them at secondhand shops and scrap metal collectors.

"They usually strike in the day time when residents are at work," ACP Sum said.

The two have been remanded until Dec 23. ACP Sun said the suspects tested positive for drugs.

Youth beaten up for allegedly molesting six-year-old girl in Miri -Thursday, December 15, 2016

MIRI (15/12/2016): Shoppers at a commercial centre here beat up a youth who was found molesting a six-year-old old girl and unzipping her pants before making a citizen's arrest.

They hauled him to the security guards and alerted the police mobile unit. The youth was arrested.

The incident happened at the E-Mart commercial centre in the Kuala Baram district some 20km north of Miri city on Wednesday evening.

Miri police chief Asst Comm Khoo Leng Huat confirmed the incident.

"Members of the public at the E Mart shopping complex saw the youth trying to lure the little girl to the top floor of the shopping complex.

"They saw the youth forcing himself on her and fondling her private parts while trying to unzip her pants, and swiftly intervened.

"The top floor is a secluded place where kitchen equipment are kept.

"The youth was beaten up before he could do worse things to the girl. He was taken to the security office before the police were alerted.

"We (police) call on parents to be more careful with their children when they are in public places," he said here Thursday.

Initial investigation showed that the six-year-old victim was the daughter of a trader who was operating a stall in the vicinity.

The police believed that the molester is an Indonesian but there were no personal identification documents found on him.

He had been placed in the police lock-up pending further probe.

The victim has been sent to the Miri hospital for check-up.

Boy killed, three others injured, after attempting to intervene in domestic fight -Thursday, December 15, 2016

KOTA KINABALU (15/12/2016): A group of youths who tried to intervene in a public fight between a divorced couple were themselves attacked, resulting in one of them being killed, and three severely wounded.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M.Chandra said one of the group was found dead with slash wounds on his forehead and neck at Jalan Coastal here at about 4.15am.

"The body of 17-year-old Yacoob Nasran was sent to Queen Elizabeth hospital for a post-mortem. "Another three of the group, who were severely wounded, are in stable condition at the hospital," he said.

It is learned that the group of seven youths, aged between 18 and 20, had just exited an entertainment outlet when they came upon a man arguing with his ex-wife.

The argument became very heated, and the young men tried to calm the 26-year-old husband down. "(But the) man become incensed and (called to his male) cousin, (who was nearby), to help him attack the (young men).

"(Using a) machete, (the duo then) attacked the young people," Chandra added. Early investigation shows that the suspect had argued with his ex-wife due to jealousy.

The ex-wife works at an entertainment outlet near Asia Star City Complex here. Chandra said police are searching for the man and his cousin.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Security supervisor jailed 15 years, five canings for raping best friend's daughter -Wednesday, December 14, 2016

KUALA LUMPUR (14/12/2016): The High Court on Wednesday increased the jail sentence imposed on a father of two from 10 to 15 years for raping his best friend's daughter.

Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah passed the sentence after allowing the prosecution's appeal to increase the sentence on J. Ravichandran, 43, a security supervisor, imposed by the Sessions Court.

However, Azman retained the five lashes imposed on Ravichandran by the Sessions Court after finding him guilty of raping a girl aged 15 years 11 months four years ago.

Azman made the decision after considering that at the time of the incident, the victim was underaged, the trust her parents had of him when they left her in his care, and the trauma she experienced.

However, he allowed the request from counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik who represented the accused to delay the sentence until an appeal had been filed at the Appeals Court, and the RM20,000 bail was maintained. - Bernama

Miri wife beaten for serving cold food, husband arrested -Wednesday, December 14, 2016

MIRI (14/12/2016): A poultry farmer was detained by police for allegedly beating his wife with a belt and cane in Kampung Jagus Lambir, here.

Miri police chief ACP Khoo Leng Huat said the 33-year-old man had allegedly struck the victim, aged 34, at about 4pm on Sunday as he was angry after being served cold food.

"When the victim decided to give the dish to the dog, the suspect became angry and struck the complainant with a belt and cane," he said today.

Khoo said the victim, a housewife, suffered bruises and scratches on her legs, arms and body.

"(In fact), the victim (was often) beaten by the suspect," he said, adding that the man was remanded for three days until Thursday. - Bernama

Policeman charged with rape of woman in KL hotel -Tuesday, December 13, 2016

KUALA LUMPUR (13/12/2016): A policeman was charged at the Sessions Court here today with raping a 29-year-old woman four months ago.

Corporal Sophiaan Shahrun, 39, pleaded not guilty to the offence before judge Datin M. Kunasundary.

The accused, who was attached to the Wangsa Maju district police headquarters, was accused of committing the offence at room 213 of TA Hotel, Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur between 2am and 6am on Aug 28.

He was charged under Section 376 of Penal Code for rape, which carries a maximum 20-year jail term and whipping, upon conviction.

The judge set RM10,000 bail with one surety and fixed Jan 16 next year for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Liyana Zawani prosecuted while lawyer Fahmi Adilah represented the accused.

Stick to your day job: Mechanic charged with attempted robbery of Chinese tourist -Saturday, December 10, 2016

KUALA LUMPUR (10/12/2016) : A mechanic who failed in his bid to snatch a Chinese tourist’s handbag at the National Monument (Tugu Negara) was hauled to the Sessions court here today.

Mohamad Asyraf Mohd Shah, 21, pleaded not guilty to the offence before Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah.

He was charged with attempting to snatch Wu Ronghua's handbag while she was visiting the national monument at Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin, Dang Wangi, at 4.20pm on Dec 3 this year.

In pleading for minimum bail, Asyraf's counsel, P. Muniswer, said his client is taking care of and supporting his parents.

Rohatul allowed for RM7,000 bail with one surety, and ordered the accused to stay away from the victim and prosecution witnesses.

She fixed Dec 23 for mention. Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shahida Wan Omar prosecuted.

Lorry attendant charged for murder -Saturday, December 10, 2016

PETALING JAYA (10/12/2016): A lorry attendant was charged at the magistrate’s court here with the murder of a jobless man whose decomposed body was found in an abandoned area last week.

S Mathivanan, 32, who was not represented, simply nodded his head to indicate that he understand as the charge was read out to him before magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir.

No plea was recorded. Mathivanan was accused of murdering P Tamil Vanan, 32, at an abandoned area in Telaga Biru, Serdang Lama, Jalan 18/30, Serdang here around midnight on Dec 1.

His charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries a mandatory death sentence. The court fixed Jan 10 for mention pending post-mortem report. Deputy public prosecutor Saphira Selamat prosecuted.
