Jobless man stabbing his son to death in Taman Desa Jaya

JOHOR BARU (23/11/2016): Police have detained an unemployed man for stabbing his son to death at their home in Taman Desa Jaya here.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Jokhiri Abd Aziz said the incident took place on Tuesday night at around 7pm in the living room of the family's house.

"There was a misunderstanding which led to a quarrel between the 23-year-old victim and his 54-year-old father," he said when contacted here on Wednesday.

During the scuffle, the victim was stabbed once in the left chest while the father suffered stab wounds to his abdomen and chest.

Supt Jokhiri said the victim died at the scene due to stab wounds while the suspect was in a stable condition.

"Police took more than an hour to negotiate with the suspect, who was still holding the knife used in the incident, before arresting him," he said, adding that the victim's 49-year-old mother had witnessed the whole incident.

The police brought the suspect to Sultan Ismail Hospital here for medical check-up and treatment for his injuries.

Police believe that the misunderstanding was due to financial problems faced by the family.

"The mother is the sole breadwinner for the family while the son and his father are unemployed. Three other siblings are still schooling," he said.

Supt Jokhiri said the suspect would be remanded to assist in the investigations classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
