Man charged with murdering toddler -Wednesday, December 7, 2016

SUNGAI PETANI (07/12/2016): A jobless man appeared expressionless as he was charged with the murder of a toddler, whose body was found stuffed in a cooler box recently.

Mohd Affandi Fauzi Ramlee, 34, merely nodded when the charge was read out to him in Malay by a court interpreter.

Mohd Affandi, from Taman Sri Wang, Sungai Petani, was charged with murdering the toddler between 8am on Oct 27, and 2am on Nov 24, at the Paya Nahu flat here.

Wearing a light blue T-shirt and black knee length pants and flip-flops, Mohd Affandi shielded his face from the press by pulling his shirt over his head as he was led from the lockup to the magistrate’s court yesterday.

Mohd Affandi, who was arrested on Nov 24, was unrepresented in court. He has been in remand since then.

No bail was offered as the offence carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Magistrate Adibah Husna Zainal Abidin fixed mention for Jan 22, pending the chemist’s and forensic reports.

DPP Izza Munirah Mansor appeared for the prosecution.

The case was uncovered last month after the toddler’s 26-year-old mother ran to her neighbour for help while cradling her critically injured four-year-old daughter.

Following a report, police discovered the decomposed body of the boy in a cooler box when they visited the flat on Nov 24.

The boy’s body was found wrapped in a thin mattress, placed in the cooler box and covered in ice.

The girl, who was suspected to be abused, suffered from a broken collarbone and bruises.

Mohd Affandi and the children’s mother tested positive for drugs and were remanded to facilitate investigations.

When contacted, Kuala Muda OCPD Asst Comm Md Zukir Md Isa said the mother has been released on a court bond.

Not-so-smart thief nabbed after breaking into shop selling CCTVs -Tuesday, December 6, 2016

KUALA LUMPUR (06/12/2016): A man allegedly made a rather daring robbery attempt on Sunday when he broke into a shop premise selling Closed-circuit Televisions (CCTVs).

The 37-year-old allegedly broke into the shop at Taman Jinjang Baru at 4pm, when no one was on the premise.

But the premise owner, who was conducting business elsewhere, was alerted to the man’s presence when he checked the live feed of his office’s CCTVs on his smartphone.

Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner R Munusamy said the owner then lodged a police report.

Based on the CCTV recording, which caught the image and actions of the man, police conducted a manhunt on the same day and arrested him at Jinjang Selatan.

Munusamy said police seized a Sig Sauer gun and a magazine containing 10 9mm bullets, as well as a machete and saw, from the alleged burglar’s container cabin.

A background check revealed that the man has a record of 18 criminal offences, including burglary and robbery, committed in the city this year. Police are investigating where the man obtained his gun.

GrabCar driver charged with insulting woman's modesty -Tuesday, December 6, 2016

PETALING JAYA (06/12/2016): A part-time GrabCar driver was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with insulting the modesty of a 20-year-old woman, early November.

M. Vijayakumar, 27, an engineer, claimed trial to committing the offence in a car along New Klang Valley Expressway, Kota Damansara here at noon on Nov 5.

He faces Section 509 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of five years or a fine or both, on conviction. Magistrate Salamiah Hassan set RM4,000 as bail with one surety and Jan 13 for remention.

The court also set an additional condition on the accused - that the bail would be forfeited should there be any police reports of indecency against him throughout the case.

Deputy public prosecutor Nadiah Malek Fauzie appeared for the prosecution while counsel Mohd Shazwan Mohd Hassan represented Vijayakumar. -- BERNAMA

Snatch thieves bungle getaway, apprehended by angry members of public -Monday, December 5, 2016

SEREMBAN (05/12/2016): Two snatch thieves were caught by members of the public here yesterday as they attempted to flee after yanking away a woman’s necklace.

The incident occurred as the victim – a 49-year-old woman and her 51-year-old husband – were walking in front of a supermarket at Jalan Yamtuan, Seremban at 5.30pm.

Seremban district police chief Assistant Commissioner Thiew Hock Poh said the suspect, who had alighted from a motorcycle, approached the woman and suddenly grabbed her necklace.

He then hopped onto the waiting motorcycle, driven by an accomplice, and attempted to flee.

"The thieves attempted to speed off, but could not get far, as they lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a parked car.

“Both men were immediately apprehended by members of the public,” he said. Thiew added that the suspects, aged 26 and 27, are being remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 395 of the Penal Code for robbery.

Teenager lodges report against step-father for sexual assault -Monday, December 5, 2016

MIRI (05/12/2016): A 16-year-old school dropout has lodged a police report against her step-father alleging that he tried to sexually force himself on her.

She claimed that her mother's second husband had sexually assaulted her on Saturday night when she was in the toilet of her house.

In her police report she said the man had made similar sexual advances to her before.

On the night of the latest incident he again tried to force himself on her when he barged into the toilet when she was inside.

She said he touched her private parts but before he could do anything else she pushed him away, and ran out of the house.

The girl lodged a police report with help from the welfare authorities.

Miri Police have arrested the suspect aged in his late 30s in his home and have obtained a remand order against him to facilitate further.probe.

Miri Police Chief Asst Comm Khoo Leng Huat confirmed the arrest.

Taxi driver found stabbed to death in taxi -Monday, December 5, 2016

GEORGE TOWN (05/12/2016): The body of a taxi driver with multiple stab wounds was found in his vehicle in front of a car service centre in Jalan Terengganu here today.

Kh’ng Keong Hoe, 56, was found in a pool of blood in the rear seat of the blue Naza Citra taxi about 1.50am.

The victim, from Pulau Tikus sustained five stab wounds on the neck, chest and back. Northeast district police chief, ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said police suspect Kh’ng was murdered elsewhere before his body was dumped in the taxi.

He said the body was sent to the Penang Hospital.

“We are trying to determine the motive of the killing and are in the midst of obtaining footage from a closed-circuit television camera if there is any installed in the area,” he added.

Car repossessor hacked to death by six men masquerading as cops -Saturday, December 3, 2016

KOTA BARU (03/12/2016): A car repossessor was hacked to death after being attacked by six men dressed in police uniforms in Kampung Air Merah, Batu Gajah, Tanah Merah on Friday.

Kelantan deputy police chief SAC Din Ahmad said the victim, Wan Ishak Wan Ismail, 48, died at the scene due to severe injuries to his back and left leg, and his right wrist was almost severed.

"The victim was approached by a group of six men at his home at 2am Friday before being hacked with machetes.

"Initial investigations revealed the motive as revenge and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said when met at the Omar Abdul Aziz Mosque in Ketereh here.

Meanwhile, the victim's wife Daengbut Rattana, 45, from Thailand said she and her four children, aged between two and 18 years, were in the house while her husband stayed outside by a bonfire.

"Shortly after that, I heard someone asked me open the door saying they were police, but when I opened the door I found six men carrying machetes and they started attacking my husband," she said. – Bernama

Family arrested for drug abuse -Friday, December 2, 2016

(02/12/2016) A FATHER, mother and son were caught taking drugs during a raid at a snooker centre in Seri Manjung, Perak, Kosmo! reported.

Manjung National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) officer Sharuddin Abdul Salam said the 53-year-old father worked at the snooker centre.

“During our raid, we found the man, his 39-year-old wife and their 16-year-old son taking drugs.

“The father has a record for drug abuse, while the mother had undergone treatment at the Bachok drug rehabilitation centre and is now being monitored by AADK,” he said.

The trio were among 14 people arrested under Ops Cegah, which focused on two drug “hotspots”.

The other 11 people were caught in Lekir.

“We also seized RM1,081 in cash which is believed to be used for drug transactions, and two bags believed to contain 25g of morphine,” said Sharuddin.
